AIOU organizes seminar on ‘International Human Rights Day’

ISLAMABAD, Dec 10 (APP):Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU),on Wednesday organized a seminar on International Human Rights Day focusing on raising awareness about human rights, respecting civil liberties and promoting social justice.
The seminar was arranged by the Department of Educational Planning, Policy Studies and Leadership in collaboration with the Department of Sociology and was attended by faculty members, researchers and students.
The Chief Guest, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr Abdul Aziz Sahir said in his address that the concept of God and the sense of accountability in the Hereafter make humans true adherents of human rights.
Referring to the sermon of Hajj al-Wada‘, he emphasized that Islam provides an eternal charter of equality, justice and human dignity, eliminating all forms of racial and linguistic discrimination.
The guest of honor, Dean of the Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Prof. Dr Mohyuddin Hashmi presented a comparative analysis of human rights concepts in Western, Islamic and Christian traditions, stating that Islam offers a comprehensive framework for genuine global human rights through equality, justice, and moral responsibility.
Other speakers highlighted the importance of regularly organizing workshops, seminars, conferences, and other academic and educational activities to promote human rights awareness.
This event was part of a series of awareness-promoting initiatives at the university under the vision of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood.
