American Engineer Resigns from Microsoft Over Gaza Conflict
Washington (HRNW) — Senior American software engineer Patrick Fort has resigned from Microsoft after seven years of service.
Fort stated that he took this step because it had become difficult to accept that Microsoft’s cloud service, Azure, was being used for Israeli surveillance and military operations.
In a detailed letter published online, Fort wrote that he cannot support Microsoft leadership’s stance that indirectly aids the genocide in Gaza. He explained that every day at work, he felt that his technical expertise was contributing to systems used against Palestinian civilians.
Previously, several employees had criticized the use of Microsoft’s Azure services by the Israeli military and intelligence agencies.
Fort added that the dire conditions faced by children, women, and ordinary civilians in Gaza deeply affected him, and he could not be part of policies that result in loss of human lives.
